Well, hopefully I can spark new life into this thread.. Not just an accomplished guitarist, but a musician as a whole, Froosh is simply THE man, as well as my personal guitar hero. He lives and breathes music, and that's what it's all about.
If anyone reads this and is also a fan, I'd really like to discuss The Empyrean.

i recently found shadows collide with people on wax for 15 dollas. awesome.. i wasnt about to dish out 60 bucks for a copy. but his solo stuff is the reason i actually really got into music on another level. and also why i picked up guitar.ha.

The newest album, The Empyrean, is absolutely fantastic. It's a concept album, tells a story front to back, and takes you on a musical journey for an hour then drops you back onto earth. In a blog of his he suggested it be listened to in a dark room late at night; which I've done lol. It takes a true fan of his work to sit through and enjoy the albums he recorded during his heroin addiction ("Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt" and "Smile From the Streets You Hold") as they are super dark, introspective, and whiny if you will. The other 8 albums post-heroin and pre-Empyrean are all great and unique. For a new listener of his solo works I recommend (briefly mentioned by luislasports) "Shadows Collide With People," "Curtains" or "The Will To Death."

Class, ill grab them as i come across em, did empyrean come out on vinyl? sounds like it would be a great album to have on hand.

It did indeed come out on vinyl. Empyrean, in my opinion, is the ultimate culmination of John's solo work thus far in his career. He utilizes everything that has ever worked for him on any of his other albums and hodgepodges them into one extremely well-done neat little package. I'm on my phone currently but I will up the album for you at 320 quality later tonight.

dark/light....the bass line.... ridiculous..
This album is amazing. ive just been chilling in my bed blasting this for the past 2 hours and love every second of it.
Imagine him touring with portugal...unreal

That is definitely one of the best on the album, certainly in the running for my favorite on it. The bass line is straight (__insert super creative adjective here__). Flea plays on a few songs, but not on that one-- that's all Froosh. He is a musician's musician. Knows tons of instruments and plays them beautifully; for example- his piano playing is super simple but fantastic. I'm glad you enjoyed it. And with all the hooplah about the leak of SS, for the record, I have the CD and LP for The Empyrean as well as all of JF's other works lol

i was fortunate enough to see him play a jam session with flea, josh, and stella mozgawa.. really one of the most touching events ive been to. it was really unreal. it was at the troubadour, so i was like 4 feet away from him just rediculously jamming out. one of the highlight of my concert history...

I have seen footage online of a show he put on with Flea and Omar Rodriguez Lopez, whom he is really good friends with. Josh might have been there too.. Either way it blew me the fuck away to even see the weak audio/visual I was given of that show. I will forever be envious of not being there and thus I covet you luislasports..

Oh I realise its just me So many people seem to like him - are actually moved by his music, even. I have tried and tried and tried to understand. But I just cant and dont. I just hate his voice, hate his style of guitar playing and hate his kind of music.
Im sorry.
